The students in Mrs. Rosekelly’s seventh grade computer classes had the unique opportunity to correspond with students from other countries.
Some of the countries participating in the ePals program included Germany, Denmark, Egypt, France, Spain, England, and Italy. The students were able to identify similarities and differences between themselves and their ePals, and were able to give specific examples of what it meant to be from a different culture.
The most memorable learning experience happened when the students were able to correspond with a classroom of students from Cairo, Egypt. The correspondence occurred right after the people of Egypt had overthrown their notorious dictator!
In addition to learning about people from far away places, the students had the opportunity to practice some valuable e-mail skills such as, composing email messages, creating signatures, opening, moving and deleting mail, creating and managing new folders, adding attachments to messages, saving a message as a draft, forwarding messages, and adding and managing email addresses in their address books.
